A few years ago, I was traveling to Kansas City for work. While on the road, I took a break one day to get a massage from the long week I had.
I was sitting across from a blind lady that seemed so happy and was smiling. She was well dressed and had a fresh manicure with a cute design on her ring finger nail. A nice bright pink sparkle offsetting her black outfit. I noticed her struggling to find her phone or something in her purse.
Then her walking stick fell and she made a funny comment about it. As she got settled, she sat there staring, waiting because there wasn’t much more she could do.
Meanwhile, I was sitting there looking around, looking at my phone or reading a magazine. Once I stopped out of boredom I watched her. I got emotional thinking that I have the capability to do some things she is unable to do. It made me sad and had me thinking about a lot.
It is unfortunate some people must live their lives this way. This made me wonder how or why this happens to some of us. Yet, seeing how happy she looked made me smile. We all may have experienced unfortunate situations in life. But, sometimes you make the best of what you have.
We need to remember to stop sometimes in our busy lives and appreciate what we have. So much is taken for granted that many others pray on having. Take a moment to look around and appreciate what you have in your life. Feel thankful and grateful.
It could always be worse.
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” – Oprah Winfrey
