A Quick Guide to a Less Stressful Life

We all experience stress and anxiety during different points in our lives.

However, some days are worse than others. Some of those days bring us deeper into a hole that we don’t know how to get out of. I wanted to provide some tips that have helped me have a less anxious-filled life. Perhaps they could be beneficial to others as well.

TIP #1:  Meditate and Journal Daily

Every morning and evening, meditate and journal about your day. Start your morning mediating on how you want your day to go, and what you are going to do to make the day positive and successful. Then write in your journal (or use an app such as 5 minute journal) to write down what you would like to do for the day.

The 5 minute journal app is fantastic! It will give you a quote every day, let you add an image and ask you three sets of questions in the morning and questions in the evening.

3 Amazing things that happened today…

What will I do to make today great? (List 3 things)

How could I have made today even better?

Daily affirmations. I am…

When meditating in the morning, tell yourself what kind of day you want to have. Keep repeating it in different ways, but they have the same meaning. “Today is going to be a great day.” “No mater what obstacles I come across today, I am going to make it a great day.” “I’m going to make sure the people I love feel loved by me and appreciated.” And so forth.

Every evening when you meditate, reflect on your day. Did your day turn out the way you wanted it to from your morning meditation? The same goes for your journal. Eventually you’ll find out what works best for you. Maybe meditating only in the mornings is best, or just the evenings. This isn’t something you will eventually have to do every single day once it becomes a habit, and the anxiety subsides.

TIP #2: Breathe

When feeling stressed, anxious or angry – Breathe. Yes, that’s right, breathe. Slow, deep breathes. Inhale. Exhale. There are several apps out there to provide you with helpful breathing techniques. If you focus on your breathing for a couple of minutes, and remind yourself of my favorite quote “Breathe in the good shit. Breathe out the bullshit.” It works wonders. Mind over matter. 

TIP #3: Exercise 

Some type of daily exercise and movement. For those are you not interested in going to the gym, go for a nature walk. Do some yoga. Get out there and move around. One step at a time. Make sure during this time that you are not on your phone. Focus on being in the moment, relieving the tension and stress in each step you take.

TIP #4: Stay organized

Use the handy apps on your phone to set reminders, to do lists or add things into your calendar. Keep your car clean and organized. Keep your home in an orderly condition in the public spaces or where you spend your time relaxing the most.

TIP #5: Live simply

Things are just things. Do all the things you have add value to your life? Do they make you feel good? If some of the things you own, don’t bring you any positive vibes per se, then toss it. Less is more. Coming home to a calm environment works wonders. Immediately you feel less anxious or stressed after a long day. Seeing clutter and having too much of something can make you feel anxious. Plus, it’s easier to clean when you have a simpler life.
